Teacher
Assistant Dance Instructor Position for Fall of 2026 (and potentially Spring 2027), with Nancy Karp + Dancers. Classes held within the Emeryville Unified School District (EUSD).
We are seeking a passionate and energetic Assistant Dance Instructor for in-school dance education. Applicant will be assisting Lead Instructor in Beginner Level/Introductory movement classes in a variety of dance forms.
Classes typically run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays – variably between 9am-12pm(noon). Applicant will be assisting with two 2nd Grade Classrooms, two 3rd Grade Classrooms, and a classroom for students with disabilities. Program duration is September-December 2026 (In-School Performance on Final Friday of last week of classes).
Location: Anna Yates Elementary in Emeryville, and overseeing Organization is New Arts Foundation/Nancy Karp + Dancers
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years experience teaching or assisting with dance classes
- Experience in more than 3 forms of dance, or 3 styles
- Main objective is to provide self-expression, communication, and creativity through movement, as well as educate on where certain styles of dance are derived from, and connect memorization and patterned practice to learning.
- Assistant Teacher must arrive early to classes, and be present with the students.
- Cultivate a safe, healthy, structured environment that is student focused, while inspiring youth and promoting teamwork.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and support classroom teacher’s protocols.
- Applicant will be in direct communication with Lead Instructor, and Artistic Director of Nancy Karp + Dancers
Additional Experience Preferred:
- An education in a wide variety of dance forms, with a background in the history and context of these forms.
- Training and experience in positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) with individuals with disabilities or alternative learning.
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensibility
