Dancing in the Schools
Nancy Karp + Dancers is thrilled to be teaching third and fourth grade students creative movement at Anna Yates Elementary School this Fall. Students will be given the opportunity to study with dance company members, and create their own dances to be performed in a special event in November at the school. Nancy Karp + Dancers’ 2022 “Dancing in the Schools” Program is supported by the City of Emeryville’s Community Grants Program and the Alameda County Arts Commission, ARTSFUND.
Nancy Karp + Dancers’ “Dancing in the Schools” outreach program has been applauded by teachers, school administrators, students, and their families in helping fill the gap in public school art education for over three decades. As part of our annual programming, it has taken a variety of forms to include teaching dance, music and video classes at elementary schools, middle schools, and at the high school level throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Students are given the opportunity to study with dance company members, and create and perform their own dances in public performances and special events at the schools. The dance company’s classes and workshops are complimented by student field trips to the theater to see concerts of dance and music by local and national professional companies.
Through Nancy Karp + Dancers’ “Dancing in the Schools” program, students have gained not only the opportunity to see and create dances, but complete our classes and workshops with a sense of pride, poise and greater self esteem that extends further into their young lives.
