The gestures and movement phrases for this work have been abstracted from portraits of Bauhaus and Russian Constructivist & Suprematist* artists and their work, specifically the seminal Malevich “Suprematist Painting, 1917-1918”. The dance does not attempt to imitate or interpret the artists’ work, but rather look to the essence of their form, the rhythm of abstract planes, and economic use of material; united with gesture and movement phrases, color, shape and space.
